Nocturne Magazine autumn 1988 issue

Anyone else but me have a copy of this? It has Tom's story "The Real Wolf". I'm curious to see how scarce it has become.

Re: Nocturne Magazine autumn 1988 issue

I have two copies of this one, possibly three. As an aside, I am particularly taken with the cover, though I can not explain why. While I have multiple copies, I think I have only seen one or two others available over the past few years, and I watch the market closely.

Re: Nocturne Magazine autumn 1988 issue

I have one copy. I won it on ebay, right out from under our own Dr. Banthem ..heh heh heh.. I sniped him at the last minute with malicious glee ..heh heh heh. Of course, that is before I got to know the good doctor. I probably wouldn't do it again. Little did I know, that he would outbid me on EVERYTHING ELSE. Well, all is fair on ebay.

As I noted elsewhere in the Nightmare Network, I like the story"The Real Wolf" a great deal. This edition also has a nice full page wood-cut illustration by Bill Harnden. I'm a sucker for illustrated fiction. I have numerous copies of Alice in Wonderland, Gulliver's Travels, etc.. with different artist interpretations. That is why I saved up my pennies to buy a Silver Scarab Press edition of Songs of a Dead Dreamer. Harry O. Morris' cover art and interior illustrations are excellent.

Now, I have a copy of this as well! I'm probably going to read "The Real Wolf" today.

Those illustrations are great. It's a pity we don't have more mags like this these days.

Re: Nocturne Magazine autumn 1988 issue

Hi guys: Can someone scan the cover. I'd like to see it. Thanks.

My story NOWHERE TO GO was published by PS PUBLISHING in a book titled POSTSCRIPTS #14 in England in 2008. Let me know if you've read it.

Sure, Barry. I absolutely love this cover, though I can not fully explain why.

Re: Nocturne Magazine autumn 1988 issue

The cover illustration is magnificent! Those guys remind me of visiting firemen from Ray Bradbury's Fahrenheit 451! Well, they're gonna be busy at my place for a while...

Unfortunately, I do not own a copy of the magazine. I do have "The Real Wolf" in the anthology 100 Creepy Little Creature Stories edited by Robert Weinberg, Stefan Dziemianowicz, and Martin H. Greenberg, however.

"What does it mean to be alive except to court disaster and suffering at every moment?"

Tibet: Carnivals?
Ligotti: Ceremonies for initiating children into the cult of the sinister.
Tibet: Gas stations?
Ligotti: Nothing to say about gas stations as such, although I've always responded to the smell of gasoline as if it were a kind of perfume.

Re: Nocturne Magazine autumn 1988 issue

I published the two issues of Nocturne: Primus and Secundus. It was a labor of love. I was in a sort of morbid frenzy driven by my discovery of Thomas Ligotti and Harry O. Morris. I had very little money at the time and I never came close to breaking even on Nocturne. It was worth it. The second issue does not have a Ligotti story, so it is not so precious now. Nonetheless, it was in many ways a superior production, especially copy-editing, and was very much inspired by Tom. I was corresponding with him at the time and some of the items in it were added at his suggestion. I think I have two copies of each now and I won't be selling them. At some point I gave my box of unsold copies to Marc Michaud from Necronomicon Press with some vague notion that I'd get paid if he sold them. No such luck, but I don't care because I wanted them to get into the hands of people who would appreciate them.

Re: Nocturne Magazine autumn 1988 issue

For those with experience purchasing this magazine on ebay, what might be the amount or range for an expected winning bid, understanding of course that the results of any particular auction are by definition unpredictable? Thanks for your insight.
