Re: Recent Reading

Your fall should be like the fall of mountains. But I was before mountains. I was in the beginning, and shall be forever. The first and the last. The world come full circle. I am not the wheel. I am the hand that turns the wheel. I am Time, the Destroyer. I was the wind and the stars before this. Before planets. Before heaven and hell. And when all is done, I will be wind again, to blow this world as dust back into endless space. To me the coming and going of Man is as nothing.

Re: Recent Reading

That Dracula book is just the oddest thing, don't you think? i find it nearly impossible to read as a comic because it's so much a shorthand for the cinematic experience, like a kind of inverse storyboard, that my mind can't seem to assign it a pacing or tone of its own.

Re: Recent Reading

I'm one story away from finishing A Vintage from Atlantis: Volume 3 of the Collected Fantasies of Clark Ashton Smith.

I'm also working my way slowly through Quintus of Smyrna's Posthomerica and Julius Caesar's commentaries on his conquest of Gaul.

Re: Recent Reading

I recently read Matt Cardin's Divinations Of The Deep.
Loved it, particularly the final story, "Judas Of The Infinite"and "Notes of a Mad Copyist". I should re-read the first story "An Abhorrence to All Flesh", which was great, VERY interesting, but i'm not sure if I fully got part of the plot, I seem to be missing something, a certain link, perhaps that's intentional, it does make it more mysterious. But then again I read it somewhat of a hurry and just re-read passages a bit later

Re: Recent Reading

Yeah, it is an odd experience indeed, but worth it if only for Mignola's artwork. I love the movie, but with the comic I do not have to suffer through Anthony Hopkins and Keanu Reeves atrocious performances.

I would recommend it (although not necessarily the attendant "Concert for Transylvania", Josie and the Whip Hand, who I met personally, were cool though)

these guys missed the bill also - might have been political

Nope, Newman's Anno Dracula series is one I should definitely read someday, although I did read his Vampire Romance novella, which is a Twilight parody.

Re: Recent Reading

I just picked up a signed copy of Divinations of the Deep for $44, and I am eagerly awaiting its arrival Down Under.

Last night I finished reading the extraordinary "Remember You're a One-Ball!". What I found most terrifying about this novel was how many of the fictional events actually occurred during my own childhood. In fact, the fidelity with which Quentin rendered these incidents of my unhappy boyhood would lead me to believe that he was there taking notes! I have no doubt that very early on in life I was selected for "candidacy," but thanks to some minor acts of sadism on my part I escaped, like the narrator, from becoming a fully-fledged one-ball.

This morning I began reading Blue on Blue, and I am forcing myself to take it slow because I want the initial reading to last.

Re: Recent Reading

I read Banged Up, pro-Nazi David Irving's account of his imprisonment in Austria between 2005 and 2006 due to a speech he gave in Vienna in 1989. It is available online: http://www.fpp.co.uk/books/Banged/.

The guy is a total nut and I do not agree with him at all, but I consider his imprisonment as an attack on the right of freedom of speech and, worst of all, it gave him the chance to set himself up as a martyr. If they hadn't arrested him, the guy would be on his way to oblivion as we speak.
