Your fall should be like the fall of mountains. But I was before mountains. I was in the beginning, and shall be forever. The first and the last. The world come full circle. I am not the wheel. I am the hand that turns the wheel. I am Time, the Destroyer. I was the wind and the stars before this. Before planets. Before heaven and hell. And when all is done, I will be wind again, to blow this world as dust back into endless space. To me the coming and going of Man is as nothing.

The Sims getting the Ligotti treatment?

Quote
The Sims 4 [official site] has received a major patch and, true to form, the notes that accompany it are a delightful mix of the comic and the Weird. It’s easy to imagine a Thomas Ligotti or Robert Aickman spinning some of the confusion within the code into individual tales of domestic horror. There are no garbled telephonic hauntings to match the unnerving dimensions of Your Tiny Hand is Frozen – none that have been discovered and purged, at least – but upon reading the entries below can anyone doubt that the suburbs that house our Sims have been infected with some uncanny disorder of the nerves?
For instance...

Quote
Soon We Will Be Dust (A Handful) – fastidious clerk Gregory becomes convinced that he is becoming smaller and less visible with every day that passes. One day the automatic doors at his place of work cease to register his presence and he falls into a state of quiet despair.

"...the uncanny is to me the defining trait of this strange and terrible world and our strange and terrible minds." --Thomas Ligotti

Re: What are your favorite horror video games?

Going back to 1987, the NES port of MacAdventure's Shadowgate. This game really creeped me out, particularly due to the hypnotic music and playing late at night.

This was then followed by NES version "The Uninvited", for similar reasons:

Re: What are your favorite horror video games?

I remember "Friday the 13th" being really scary for a video game.

Re: What are your favorite horror video games?

Silent Hill 2 is my favourite horror videogame. It captures that Poe-esque dark romanticism beautifully, and is one of the surest pieces of evidence that videogames can indeed be art.

I'm also partial to the more shlocky Resident Evil series – but only the survival horror phase of series and not the current crop of Gears of War wannabe action games. No thanks.

My favourite Resident Evil game is Code Veronica due to the sense of melancholy which pervades it like no other in the series.

Re: What are your favorite horror video games?

I am eager to play these two H.R. Giger-inspired video games:

Your fall should be like the fall of mountains. But I was before mountains. I was in the beginning, and shall be forever. The first and the last. The world come full circle. I am not the wheel. Re: What are your favorite horror video games?

I played Tormentum: Dark Sorrow. The artwork is a combination of H.R. Giger and Zdzisław Beksiński and it is extraordinary, but the story is undercooked and the puzzles are a disappointment.

Nevertheless, I would recommend this game solely for the atmosphere it creates and its length; it is not a long game, which is a good thing.

Re: What are your favorite horror video games?

I'm a fan of forgotten gem Shadow Man for the N64/PSX/DC/PC. Some bits were quite dark.

I don't play many games any more, though I was a huge gamer as a kid. This year the only horror game I have played is Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth, which started fantastic and then became a mess of glitches and padding I had to force myself to finish.
