“The rest of the stage area, both above and below, also seemed to be occupied entirely by imitations of the human image: puppets and marionettes were strung-up at various elevations, relieved of their weight by fragile glistening threads; mannikins posed in a paralyzed leisure which looked at once grotesque and idyllic; other dummies and an odd assortment of dolls sat in miniature chairs here and there, or simply sprawled about the floorboards, sometimes propping each other back to back. But among these mock-people, as became evident the longer one gazed at the stage, were hidden real ones who, rather ably, imitated the imitations. (These were persons whom Dr. Haxhausen recruited, at fair recompense, whenever he entered a new town.) And forming the only scenery beyond both the artificial and the genuine figures of life was a gigantic luminescent mural in shades of black and white. With photographic accuracy, the mural portrayed a desolate room which might have been an attic or an old studio, and which contained some pieces of nondescript debris strewn about. A single, frameless window set into the torn wall at the rear of the room looked out upon a landscape that was still more desolate than the room itself: earth and sky had merged into a gray and jagged scene.” |

GLASS STORIES by Ivy Grimes
Synopsis
Glass Stories by Ivy Grimes is a collection of seventeen darkly weird and humorous tales that reflect the essence of Angela Carter, Shirley Jackson, Kelly Link, and Haruki Murakami’s storytelling. Grimes explores the spectral nature of glass in everyday objects, taking readers from purgatory to the Bible Belt, through narratives that shimmer with the uncanny and the absurd. An old woman invites two strangers into her glass tower, a woman gives birth under the glow of a glass gift from her late mother, a bookstore clerk’s mundane existence is shattered by a glass book, and a man untangles his mother’s fears through a glass oddity. From the menacing presence of a glass angel to a glass pet protector who eats light, each story is a pane that illuminates the characters’ deepest trials and whims. We witness a teen reinventing herself amidst glass coffins, two elderly brothers opening old wounds in a glass museum, a bride bedazzled by a glass apple given to her as a wedding present, an aggrieved daughter trapped atop a glass mountain by her father, and a captive woman who glimpses salvation through a mirror. The singular tales in Glass Stories entrance and delight.

This Cadabra Records Ligotti double album, to me, with astonishing art by Grady Gordon, is the most aesthetically pleasing work they've produced to date. Yes, I'm biased. But dear Yog, this is gorgeous.
"ON SALE NOW! The Tsalal by Thomas Ligotti 2x LP set. Read by Jon Padgett and scored by Chris Bozzone. Liner notes by Michael Cisco. Packaged in a triple panel gatefold sleeve with art by Grady Gordon. Oversees customers can purchase through Psilowave. We have less than 100x copies to go around, so don’t sleep on this incredible production!!"
If you really want to know Ligotti's take on all things TSALAL, buy this. It begs to be heard read aloud.

"We’re soon to launch a brand new magazine we’re calling Nightlands. Each issue is dedicated to a corresponding book. Our very first issue is themed after the Ligotti and Trenz screenplays and is only available through purchase of Michigan Basement. Each issue will average between 24 to 36 pages and will be sold for printing costs, included in the price of our books. Every few issues will be collected and expanded with additional material and sold individually as single volumes. In the near future we have titles by Mark Samuels, Matthew M. Bartlett, Thomas Ligotti, T. E. D. Klein, H. P. Lovecraft with more to come, so you can only imagine how fun this magazine is going to be. Shown is cover art by Joe Keinberger and back cover art by Dave Felton."
