In parallel to the horrors of the COVID-19 pandemic, a magazine is born: Shangri-La 93. Directed by Leopoldo Teja, emeritus professor of journalism at the Gustavo Adolfo Bécquer University in Madrid, the publication becomes a refuge for a writer haunted by his past as an occultist. He sees in its pages a chance at redemption, channeling his deepest traumas into fiction.
But dreams soon twist into nightmares, and the writer finds himself unable to escape the shadows of his past. Meanwhile, a secret investigation is launched into the magazine’s publications after a series of strange events linked to the terrorist cult of Mordred. The horror descends upon the writers of Shangri-La 93 like a tsunami. And, while all falls apart, from the depths emerges a voice, and its name sounds clear: Ghizguth.
This anthology was born as a non-profit Spanish-language community project coordinated by the Spanish-language Wiki Lovecraft, currently known as the Refugio Bizarro collective, in 2023. The idea was to expand the background of the Great Old One Ghizguth, conceived by Clark Ashton Smith, which lacked a solid foundation. In this anthology, its lore is expanded, new elements of the Mythos are introduced, and the groundwork is laid for what would later become our own shared imaginary within the Mythos.
The stories are fairly early works, something already noted in the preface to this volume, but I found that more than a few readers might still find what we wrote here interesting. In this work, a real pain was transformed into fiction, as if reality were reflected in a mirror and the result were this.
