Creepy Nursery Rhyme/Tale of the Day

Though not a children's tale/rhyme, there is a connection with the verse above and David Bowie's song 'The Man Who Sold the World':

We passed upon the stair
We spoke of was and when
Although I wasn't there
He said I was his friend
Which came as a surprise
I spoke into his eyes
I thought you died alone
A long long time ago...

I've always liked that Bowie was inspired by this poem, especially as it seems to be from the perspective of the 'Man Who Was Not There' in the original poem.

That is exceptionally cool, bud. Had no idea... You've kind of been on fire today! Great thoughts...

Even as a child, I knew the following nursery rhyme was repellant:

"This Old Man"

This old man, he played one
etc. etc.

I forgot to mention the most horrific element of this old rhyme/song: the tune to "This Old Man" was retooled to act as the coda-theme for Barney & F[r]iends.

Observe (and despair):

A French nursery rhyme:

"Ainsi font, font, font,

Les petites marionnettes,

Ainsi font, font, font,

Trois p'tits tours et puis s'en vont.

(...)

Et elles danseront,

Les petites marionnettes,

Et elles danseront,

Quant les enfants dormiront."

"They turn, turn, turn,

The little puppets,

They turn, turn, turn,

Circle thrice and disappear.

(...)

But they will dance again,

The little puppets,

But they will dance again,

Once the children sleep."

Just looking through this old thread. Man, some great material here.
