Member SMS Text Messaging

A new feature has been added which allows members to send mobile phone text messages to other members who are designated as friends. The phone number remains private and members that are not in your friends list will not be allowed the option to send a text message.

SMS SETUP

1. Select the menu option User-->User Control Panel.
2. Under Settings and Options in the left navigation bar, select Edit SMS Options.
3. Within the Your Number box, select the link (click here) to add/verify your number.
4. Select your cell phone provider from the drop-down selection box.
5. Save Changes
6. Enter your cell phone number (twice). Include the area code(s). The length should be (10) digits.
7. Save Changes
8. Select Cell Email Address
9. Save Changes
10. Send a Test Message
11. Save Changes
12. Check Your Phone for Text Message (Note Pin Number)
13. Enter Pin Number at Computer

SMS OPTIONS

• Send me a SMS notification when somebody sends me a private message.
• Allow forum members (FRIENDS ONLY) to send me a SMS message from my profile.
• Limit the number of daily messages I receive to (blank or 0 for no limit).

SENDING TEXT MESSAGES TO TLO FRIENDS

• View the Profile Page of the Member to Receive Text Message
• Option 1: Select Send Text Message to Member from Send Message Drop-down Menu.
• Option 2: Select Send Text Message to Member from CONTACT Tab.
• Type Message
• Click Send Message

I should make a couple of points clear:

• You do not have to set up your own profile for texting in order to text another member. The only pre-requisites for texting another member with this interface is that the recipient is set to receive text messages and you are among their list of friends.
• Replying to text messages sent by this interface will not be received. This is currently a one-way communication method, though future versions may resolve this shortcoming.
• The Private Message text notice does not include the content of the message, but only the sender and title information.

Has anyone successfully set up their phone to receive TLO texts? I have yet to have anyone send me a text, which does not necessitate any setup. If you are within my list of friends, you can type a quick message from my profile page. Remember, setup on your end is not required and it is free to send messages.
