Packages from the Postman

Received in today's mail...

Bitter Distillations (Egaeus Press) - with a stellar line-up of short stories by a number of my fave contemporary authors, how could I resist?

Adventures in Africa by Raymond Roussel - this has long been one of my favorite Surrealist novels... time to get an original hardcover edition of the English translation.

Got these this week. The four on the left are a box set.

I’m increasingly happy to see Trevor Henderson collaborating with this kind of author, even if in this particular case it’s only for the cover. He also collaborated with Laird Barron for an illustrated edition published by Subterranean Press. It looks like a good book.

That cover definitely drew me in, yes. As did the stories I sampled before purchase: "The Consultant's Hand", "Estrangements" and "The World of Iniquity Among Our Members Is the Tongue". All very good, especially the last one.

Recent arrivals at the P.O. box:

Everywhere is a Horror Story - Kurt Fawver (Grimscribe Press, 2026)

Insidious Mechanisms - anthology (Egaeus Press, 2026)

Shadows and Silence - anthology (Ash Tree Press, 2000). With an unbelievable line up of top tier writers and for around $20, this one was a no-brainer.

The Lost Lions - Edward Gorey (Pomegranate Press, 2011). Are there any other Gorey fans here? And not that it matters, but i wonder if Mr. Ligotti likes Gorey's work? I've been a huge fan ever since finding a first edition of "The Unstrung Harp" at the bottom of a trashcan containing very old textbooks in San Francisco in 1989.

Jonas Plöger of Zagava Press is a major Gorey fan and collector.

Yes, Jonas and I have exchanged emails regarding Gorey. He wrote a book about Gorey buttons, iirc.

I discovered Edward Gorey’s work thanks to a contemporary artist I really liked, John Kenn Mortensen, who I was told was inspired by him.

This CD just arrived in the mail. It's a Polish artist from early 90s. Why can't there be more music like this?
