Savage Detectives

Indeed. It was one of the best experiences I've had with literature, so much that I got the famous poem Sion by Cesárea Tinajero inked on my arm. Very important plot device there.

It's funny, because I just started reading Teatro Grottesco just last night :)

I haven't read Savage Detictives, but I was thinking about it last night. I've started another book, and have another on my horizon, but this gives me a nudge in that direction. Maybe I'll read them all at once? It's sitting on my shelf...

And I just read Teatro Grottesco in December.

Savage Detectives is a book that I recommend reading solo. It's quite labyrinthic, it's long (600+ pages in the original Spanish) and it's a very hispanophone reading, very connected (and talking to) a lot of Latin American and Spanish literature. I'd definitely say that madness is a leitmotif all around, but I wouldn't say that Bolaño and Ligotti share a similar philosophy or writing style.
