I can't see a thread in which people can ask What the...? about this forum. Not everything is self-explanatory. So I thought I'd add one. Perhaps this duplicates something that already exists. Perhaps I'd know whether it does, were I more computer-clever.

Anyway -- for a start...

I was looking at my user profile today and saw a button to Add Album. But I couldn't see anything to tell me what an Album is in this context.
 
In the Album you can add pictures of you or whatever you'd like to share with the other members of the board ... i guess that's its purpose!
 
So - it's a picture album. Maybe I should just try adding one, and see what happens. :( (The smiley was intended to look nervous at the prospect.)

I was just looking at Who's Online --- and saw that a Yahoo! Slurp Spider was viewing this thread.

Though it is not a detailed "user manual", the FAQ section for vBulletin provides an overview of many features. I will separate the Ligotti/vBulletin FAQs on the menu so that the latter section is more prominent. It may have been buried to an extent that many of you have not noticed it. It has been updated to include the new set of base features introduced in the recent upgrade. For now, you may view vBulletin FAQ here: TLO - vBulletin FAQ.

Nice detective work! This is the method that I used to deflect the bot tsunami which we had previously experienced.

UPDATE
I have revised the menu options under Info to distinguish the Ligotti FAQ and Interface FAQ sections.
 
Following one of those links, I found this:

That reminded me of a rhyme that was (when I was little) a response to children saying that they didn't care...

Don't care was made to care
Don't care was hung
Don't care was put in a pot
And boiled till he was done

It also made me think that, when I was little, the bots of bad children were spanked. ;)
 
And looking at the other link (for which my thanks) I found this:

That made me think of The Hog (attributed to William Hope Hodgson -- but I doubt whether it is entirely his work, if he wrote it at all). :p

If I click on Daily Posts, I see a list of threads (which is fair enough). Underneath is a further list headed:

The threads below have not been updated since your last visit or since forums have been marked read.

Still fair enough, but it's surprising that I am the last person to post to the top two of the threads below have not been updated since your last visit or since forums have been marked read. I wonder how that's possible. :mad:

The list itself is comprised of threads with posts which have occurred within the past 24 hours. The delineation point between the first and second part of the list is your last login date and time. If you last visited 12 hours ago from your current login, it lists the posts which occurred in the interim first.

But my albums haven't changed... :eek:

Do have to make them better to go back up to silver? Or would it help me if someone else's became crapper? Would it help if the site valued cat pictures more highly? :confused::o

The addition of dog images just might help your rating. :)

Seriously, the awards are not subjective, but instead based on formulas calculated by the server. Some formulas are quite complex, but in the case of the Album Award it is simply a total count of images within your personal albums. If you want to increase your standing for this award, just upload more images. Be aware that awards are recalculated daily, therefore your standing may not change immediately.
 
Thank you Dr B -- that was most illuminating. I think I once saw something saying that there was a maximum number of pictures I could post. (100? 500??) If I reached that number would I automatically have a gold for my albums? :D

I see, too, that I score 100% amongst the more active users. :rolleyes: I've been wondering what that's about. :confused:

It appears that Yellowish Haze has 48 images within his various albums. At this moment, you need to upload 25 more to take ownership of the coveted gold skull. Of course, if Slawek continues to upload images as well, the race continues. The award system promotes activity, which is great thing! I have increased the image upload limit to from 100 to 1000, as the server space allocated to TLO is quite vast.

I have not looked this particular formula, but it is directly related to online presence and interaction over a set period. If you should not visit or post within the set period, your activity would equal 0%. I will likely tweak this formula to allow diversity within the top ranks in lieu of several members receiving 100% activity ratings.
