What the...?

I wrote about half of a private message I wanted to send, and then, wishing to leave it for that night, I clicked on "save draft". Now, I can't find my saved half message. Was it really saved? And, if so, where was it saved? Or is it lost?

Drafts should appear when you re-initiate the private message. Try starting a new private message to the same member and see if the saved content pops up.
 
Thank you Dr B! I tried doing that and the text reappeared. :) My paragraph breaks had vanished, but there should be no problem in reinstating them. The words are back, and that's what counts.
 
I was surprised to read this on the TLO this morning:

Especially as I received this email from the TLO:

The Birthday anouncement recognizes member privacy settings. Since you have set your member profile to "Hide Age and Date of Birth", TLO does not announce it. I will manually create a thread right away as a Birthday present. Happy Birthday, Pet!

Good gracious! I didn't know that I'd set my profile to "Hide Age and Date of Birth". Since I've no idea how I'd go about doing that (or changing it, having once done it) I can only think that I did it by accident. :eek:

In fact I don't care who knows my age and/or date of birth. ;)

The things I don't know how to do on this site are truly legion. I am an Internet-Idiot and all round Komputer-Klutz. :drunk:

I wonder whether it is possible to recover posts that have been written, but not posted. I don't expect that it is. :(

The reason I wonder this is that I was just completing a post on the Desert Island thread when (without any warning) this computer shut itself down and re-started so as to configure Windows updates. I realise that this is a sign that my housemate's computer has been set up very badly. :mad:

But I was wondering whether it means that I have to lose the occasional post. It's a good job that I don't use this horrible, horrible, horrible (but Internet-connected) computer for composing literary work. :o

Try replying to the same post and see if your content shows. If it does not, I am afraid it is indeed lost. In the future, I would suggest clicking the Save Draft button periodically when composing lengthy entries. It will manually save the content for retrieval in the manner I indicated above. This should only be used for backup and not as an archiving system however, as I do not recall if you can save drafts to multiple threads or what might happen if you log out or reply to another thread before you recover the draft. The User Notes system is ideal for compiling multiple posts which are not quite ready to post (User-->User Notes).
 
Thank you Dr B. I'm afraid that the post is, indeed, lost. But, in future, I will try to bear your wise advice in mind.
 
I agree with Dr. Bantham about User Notes. That's where I work with TLO member interviews. Good advice is to frequently use the Save button even if working offline. One could lose electricity at any time...

I don't think that it did appear on my profile. And I'm still not sure what a User Note is. :confused::confused:
 
A while ago I tried to add some extra images to my albums, but they wouldn't upload. So, today, I uploaded the pictures to Photobucket, thinking that might help. But there doesn't seem any way to upload pictures from Photobucket to the TLO. Or is there? :confused:

Yes, it is sad that the 'tradititional' Sunday chat is in the doldrums. There is a simple reason for that: several people, me included, who participated in it are very very busy (Cyril Tourneur, Ligeia, Daisy...). Also - not a few Ligottians are on Facebook, where status updates keep you informed about what they're doing, reading, thinking et cetera. I myself have been in the Bungalow House several times the past few months, but life has intervened quite often (I lost my mother last month, for one thing, and I am very busy furthering my literary career).

That's the explanation, Pet. Let's hope chat will be back in the near future with the regularity it once had. But it's not only up to me....
 
Unfortunately with my irregular shifts I never know if during chat I will be home, at work and busy or sleeping. I was thinking about joining chat yesterday, but after five nights of work in a row I decided to go to sleep at 9.

Really? I think that only two (Sławek Wielhorski and Des Lewis) appear amongst my Facebook friends. (I currently have 24 Facebook friends.) :confused:
