Re: Which Ligotti Stories Do You Think Are Under-appreciated or Hidden Gems?

I feel very strongly about that as well. Even after reading TBH many, many times, like many of Tom's works, it just gets better and better.

And speaking of TBH, here's one of my more prized possessions, the nomination certificate for the Stoker award that Tom recieved. He sent it to me, which blew my mind, and when I asked him why he didn't keep it, he said, with a certain amount of Ligottian snark, "I didn't win". It was in a file cabinet of curios, the contents which he sent to me one day, many years ago, out of nowhere. I keep it framed in my office at work.
I've never read the award winner, "Chatting with Anubis," by Harlan Ellison. But--with all due respect for Ellison as a legendary writer--I doubt his story holds a candle to "The Bungalow House." Not many stories of any form or genre do.

"Thomas Ligotti is a master of a different order, practically a different species. He probably couldn’t fake it if he tried, and he never tries. He writes like horror incarnate.”

Oh, I get it. The same year HWA gave Ellison the Lifetime Achievement Award. Bad timing for TBH.
