Bravo! The eyes have a most unsettling effect. There is also a strong marionette quality to the pose.

Re: TNF Contest #1 - "The Last Feast of Harlequin"

I tried to comment on Shadow Weaver's drawing some time back, but for some reason couldn't reach the page. Charcoal is a medium that I haven't yet had any success with, and I envy his skill. It lends itself beautifully to the soft lines of the puppets. If he was ever inclined to illustrate drawings in my small press magazine, he'd be welcome!

With Aaron's photograph, I'm as intrigued by the puppet faces caught in the flames as the figure in the foreground.

Re: TNF Contest #1 - "The Last Feast of Harlequin"

Here is my submission. Title -- "Mirocaw Clown". The piece orginated from a turn of the century photo. I have drastically altered the image digitally to achieve the current effect.

This is a wonderful interpretation! As a source of curiosity, could you also post the original photograph? Of course, this would also give a perspective on the effort and creativity involved to arrive at the finished piece.

Re: TNF Contest #1 - "The Last Feast of Harlequin"

Included is the original picture (creepy in its own right). I have changed the facial features to reflect somewhat the look of the figure in Edvard Munch's famous painting "The Scream" as described by Ligotti in "The Last Feast of Harlequin". I wanted the picture to look more Expressionistic with hard lines and high contrast rather than the photo realism of the source photo. It also makes the details in the image appear more dream-like and abstract. I used various digital filters to achieve this look.
