Beethoven's Late String Quartets

Why do we worry about there being no Heaven let alone any existence at all after death, when we have Heaven already here with us in our lives on Earth?

I don't know anything about 'good recordings'. I have one set of CDs of the complete Beethoven String Quartets - Medici String Quartet - Nimbus Records. And these seem fine to me.

So that you can do some 'digging', these are Beethoven's 'Late' String Quartets, that I consider to be 'Heaven on Earth':

String Quartet...
in E Flat Major, Opus 127
in B Flat Major, Opus 130
in C Sharp Minor, Opus 131
in A Minor, Opus 132
in F Major, Opus 135

Opus 133 is the Grosse Fuge that was the original ending of Opus 130

I hope this is useful.

Re: Beethoven's Late String Quartets

I only have the one from Amadeus Qt on DG. I read that the one from Lindsay Qt on ASV is good. Here are some more comments I found online:

re: OPUS 131: From internet:
"A spooked-up rendition of the first movement's opening bars appears repeatedly in the soundtrack to the horror movie SCANNERS"

Here is the opening 9 minutes of Opus 131 (with links to the rest of the whole SQ):

Re: Beethoven's Late String Quartets

I somehow missed hearing these quartets until just a few years ago. It's as if they're by a different composer, a different Beethoven than the one I previously knew. I have CDs by the the Quartetto Italiano, and I don't know how they compare to other recordings, but they sound great to my ears.

Re: Beethoven's Late String Quartets

I feel these Quartets are ideal for Ligottians in so many inscrutable ways. The optimum synergy of Distraction and Sublimation seeded with late-life despair as well as fulfilment.
