Re: "The Black Gondolier" by Fritz Leiber
I didn't know Fritz Leiber's horror fiction until recently, but he is quickly becoming one of my favourite authors. Besides "The Black Gondolier" I am strongly resonating with stories like "The Dreams of Albert Moorland", "The Phantom Slayer" and "The Thirteenth Step". The combination of paranoia, nightmare and sadness in these stories also made me think of Ligotti's fiction. (In another way, a story like "Black Has Its Charms" reminded me of "The Chymist"!).
So far, I have the two collections The Black Gondolier & Other Stories, and Smoke Ghost & Other Apparitions. Are there any other good collections of Leiber stories out there? What about his horror novels, Our Lady of Darkness and Conjure Wife, are they as good as the short stories? | |||||||||||
