Re: Leonard Cohen Interview on Monastry Life

He talks about his experience in the monastery in part 1, and about aging and other topics in parts 2 and 3. Very good interview.

Re: Leonard Cohen Interview on Monastry Life

Personally, I feel the truth of Cohen’s remarks about the search for enlightenment. He spent five years in a monastery; I spent ten years in a Gurdjieff group. He had a teacher he respected and loved; I. too, was fortunate to have such a teacher. I knew more good people than I deserved to know. The Fourth Way is the opposite of the Way of the Monk; it is esoteric Christianity and must be pursued in Life, among the many. I value G.’s Work today. But at the same time, I have to admit I came to the identical conclusions Cohen did.

His new CD is his best since "I'm Your Man."

Nothing can stop you from thinking. The human mind is designed to think continually. Something I wrote quite a few years ago was, “The voices in my head, they don’t care what I do, they just want to argue the matter through and through.” It is a common mistake, to think you’re going to go into some kind of spiritual practice and you’re going to be relieved of the human burdens, from human crosses like thought, jealousy, despair—in fact, if anything, these feelings are amplified.
