Toad Road (for Possum fans)

Having just watched Possum on Amazon Prime, I would like to mention and recommend (highly) the movie Toad Road to those who appreciate the Possum movie.

Possum is as many have said, a very good film (if its your type) and I especially enjoyed it for a couple of more reasons. Secondarily, it was shot on 35mm motion picture film.

Primarily though, it is one of the best examples of those rare horror films that essentially make something out of nothing. They are lean and mean, and linear, in the sense that they aim for your fears and don't zig, zag, or let go. Budget wise, plot wise, script wise, actor wise, there is no real there there; maybe, at the end, a rather ordinary person (the Creep films) or maybe just nothing (Digging Into the Marrow).

The apotheosis of the make something out of nothing genre, in my opinion, is Toad Road. It takes nothing, budget wise, plot wise, script wise, actor wise, and turns it (again, if it's for you) into an engrossing masterpiece of ingenuity and subtle horror.

And I found it to be very, very Ligottian.

Re: Toad Road (for Possum fans)

I like Toad Road as well.
The editor and co-producer of Toad Road, Jorge Torre-Torres, directed an excellent film called Shadow Zombie which is worth seeking out.

Re: Toad Road (for Possum fans)

Thank you for the referral; it is on Amazon Prime.

It is another masterpiece of the something from nothing horror genre. The two brief "shadow zombies" were a masterstroke. Also, I got a kick out of the blurred faces - that may be a cinematic first.

Re: Toad Road (for Possum fans)

So, I love this film. It was filmed about 20 minutes from my home. Toad Road is a real local haunt. There is some strange local lore regarding the film as well. One theory deals with the actress Sara Jones who died shortly after filming Toad Road. They (people?) suggest she passed the “fifth” gate and eventually succumbed to madness and/or severe depression.
