Topic Winner Unlikely Bedfellows

Last night while tidying up one of my disorderly bookcases I conceived of a new game for the amusement of our members. Here are the rules, such as they are: post a photographic tableau of your Penguin Tom nestled between two other volumes in the Penguin Classics range, authors with whom you never believed TL would share the same shelf--the greater the disparity the better. Here is Ligotti holding court with the lascivious Casanova and the libidinous young Flaubert:

PS. My favourite part of the Penguin Tom is the genre designation printed in red on the back cover: not supernatural fiction, not horror stories, not weird tales, but simply Literature.

"Reality is the shadow of the word." -- Bruno Schulz

Ligotti exchanges caustic maxims with La Rochefoucauld and contemplates the eternal silence of these infinite spaces with Pascal:

Re: Unlikely Bedfellows

I think this is very appropriate. Horrors galore in those pages.

Now, perhaps I should organise all my bookshelves according to this Principle of Unlikely Bedfellowship.

Crushed under the epistolary weight of Richardson, Ligotti howls: "I was looking for Lovecraft not Lovelace!"

Re: Unlikely Bedfellows

When Ligotti goes carousing with Petronius and Suetonius, the three great chroniclers of decadence trade scandalous tales:
