Ebook Version of THE MIRRORS (Finally) Available.
I know some folks have been patiently awaiting the ebook version of my short story collection The Mirrors. I'm happy to say it's now available for $4.99 at Amazon, barnesandnoble.com, and probably some other ebook retailing sites.

Re: Ebook Version of THE MIRRORS (Finally) Available.
I read "The Truth, as Told by a Bottle of Liquid Morphine" and "The Cat in the Cage," both of which were fully available as previews. I had trouble getting through the former, not because it was bad, but because of my hypochondria. Both were delightfully bleak yet also touching. "The Truth [...] Morphine" reminded be of Tolstoy's The Death of Ivan Ilyich insofar as it created the same sense of unease. Anything regarding physical decay makes me nauseous.

"In a less scientific age, he would have been a devil-worshipper, a partaker in the abominations of the Black Mass; or would have given himself to the study and practice of sorcery. His was a religious soul that had failed to find good in the scheme of things; and lacking it, was impelled to make of evil itself an object of secret reverence."

Re: Ebook Version of THE MIRRORS (Finally) Available.
I got the paperback back in January because I got impatient waiting for the ebook, heh. Oh well. It was a good choice anyway. I'd read some of the stories before (namely "the peculiar salesgirl" and "a catechism...") and I really liked those, but the rest of the collection is very good, in different ways. "Youth to be proud of", for instance, I found to be very funny... which seems odd for a book of horror stories, but that was the case for me.) And "the meaning", which is not exactly funny but being bite-sized it evokes a different feeling. Reminded me a bit of creepypastas. The good ones, I mean. But the standouts from the collection for me are "the fourteenth" and "the suffering clown", both very tragic and horrific, and two of my favourite stories I've read this year so far.
Unsure if I'll buy the ebook, since the paperback suffices for me. But still wanted to share some thoughts on the book. | |||||||||||
