Re: Too much new art?

I understand the fear of people telling each other what they should and shouldn't spend their money on, it can be a bit oppressive but I'm very much in favor of challenging people sometimes about their choices. If a friend told me they were buying Funkopop, I would try to convince them to do almost anything else with that money.
I hate it when people get on my case about buying so many things but some friendly advice would have done me some good when I'm stupidly buying bulks of things I haven't even sampled yet.

With the notable problem of bad digital art and some homogenous cartoon styles taken into consideration, I still think drawing and painting has gotten better in the past two decades and I even like some very amateurish artists (who probably didn't have much chance of exposure in pre-internet times) despite my gravitating towards highly skilled artists.
There's so much variety, opportunity for discovery, wider influences and unlike with film (and music to a lesser extent), it isn't so crippled by risk averse financers.
Films above all are ruined by businesses unwilling to risk or to pay much.

I don't think the cream rises so reliably, that's why you have to look harder and harder as time goes by, cream is being pushed aside. Disney wants your undivided attention.

Aren't we happy with all the small press book publishers today and all the micro-genres?
