Want the shortest path to the good life? Try cynicism
"Are cynics and happiness mutually exclusive? For modern cynics, perhaps. But for the ancient Cynics, not necessarily."

Re: Want the shortest path to the good life? Try cynicism
This is an excellent book. A pleasure to read for those who like well-written history and philosophy. It's also inspiring, not in a pop self-help way but in an exemplary way. There was much wisdom and nobility in the ancient Greek praise of poverty, and seen in this light Cynicism was more mature and moral than I had ever realized. I've marked many passages in this book, and go back to it occasionally to try to put my mind in a certain disposition and to remind myself of needful things.
