I'm pretty far from a fan of 80's synth/club music; however, this song is the exception. In the years prior to facebook, I had penpals on Soulseek, one of whom sent me this song; he lived in the boondocks of Iowa or someplace in the midwest equally forsaken, and was in the process of coming out to his family and friends. This song reminds me of his experiences, and few have captured better what it means to be an outsider, an exile; I hope it all turned out all right for him.

Liz Harris is always the first musician that comes to mind when the topic of sad music comes up. Such warm, cozy, muddy and lethargic music full of sorrow and isolation. Beautiful stuff.
