Songs of the Shattered World: The Broken Hymns of Hastur Limited Edition - Tickety Boo Shop

This will be released on April 16th, replete with a leather bookmark that features the Yellow Sign itself. It's not that corporate, ####, either.

Re: "Songs of the Shattered World: The Broken Hymns of Carcossa"

I ordered mine on 3/6, and I received an e-mail this morning informing me that I had been given a refund for the book with no explanation whatsoever. Looking on their website, the book isn't listed at all. What happened?

What's going on, T.? I pulled my poems from the KIY project because I lost confidence in it. You convinced me it was finally coming out and I gave you a blurb. What's going on, my friend?

Re: "Songs of the Shattered World: The Broken Hymns of Carcossa"

Your attitude toward people who supported the Chimera that was your projected KIY project seems rather arrogant to me. You stubbornly refuse to give an explanation to potential readers why the whole thing went up in smoke and pieces of broken glass. An editor lives and dies by his reputation, my friend.
Poetry desperately needs the support of those who can appreciate it. It's a small audience and we owe them our Thanks.
I don't get you, JTA.

Re: "Songs of the Shattered World: The Broken Hymns of Carcossa"

The Chimera? What are you referring to? I never wrote anything called "The Chimera".

You don't have to.

I'm not out to be a big time careerist and have everyone like me. There's a sort of thuggish, nasty attitude out there I've observed since I started this thing that really is discouraging, and it is especially true of weird fiction even as compared to academia:

You have to know this person to know that person to do this to be in good with that individual, etc et al. You don't agree! Oh, we'll show you! I won't do it. I'll work hard and do what you're actually supposed to do though with writing and editing. I do not want to use or be used. I don't sit on this website and claim I agree with all of antinatalism or anything like that. I don't.

Even if I did, I might not say it.

That's not what poetry/art is about. It's whether the art is good or bad that matters. I apologize if you feel that I've slighted you by you withdrawing your poems from the collection after I actively solicited and accepted them. You are using an abstraction, "people", to make your stake in "Songs" larger than it was. I know each and every person (who stuck with it and are still with me) involved. Around the time I started identifying as a leftist on this site you withdrew your poems.

I just figured, sort of that's just that and decided to keep things calm because I knew your feelings were hurt.

Re: "Songs of the Shattered World: The Broken Hymns of Carcossa"

I am not chiefly an editor. I am a writer. I don't really need to tell lies or woo everybody into believing that I and I alone have the King In Yellow flag, or the King In Yellow t-shirt that is the most Yellowest of all. I'm a bit old for that.

Plus I haven't spent most of my time writing in the weird fiction community.

The KIY book will go forward no matter what. I'm still on it.

What happened with "Songs" is that we got scammed by a nasty group of predators called "Tickety Boo Press". It's not a real press. They do just enough work to #### over their target scams; they have the author and editor produce something, then set up false advertising and collect on the preorders. Then they "can't publish anything". This has been well documented by other authors. They are from Britain
and seem pretty cozy in the horror community, oddly enough.

Google it: "Spectral Press".

I don't totally get you either but I'm willing to let misunderstandings coexist without hitting below the belt.

Mark was warned against that publisher in no uncertain terms. Btw, I never called you a liar. And I don't hit below the belt, my friend; when I'm angry I go for the throat. But I'm not angry. There's no personal animosity on my side, T. You know I support weird poetry and I felt those who cared about the project deserved an answer. So thanks for providing one--and good luck on eventually getting it published!

Re: "Songs of the Shattered World: The Broken Hymns of Carcossa"

Let me make one thing perfectly clear, John: I pulled my poems because, like Ashley Dioses and many others who did the same, I lost confidence in the book ever coming out. My feelings were hardly "hurt"; I knew a good editor who wanted that poem and has accepted it and others for publication this summer. I don't give a damn about politics when it comes to art and I don't know where you got the idea politics had anything to do with it; I explained my position quite clearly when I asked for the poems back. After almost a year not hearing from you was reason enough. I pulled "Grin" before the 'Trump debate' on the free speech thread, T., and have the email to prove it so...enough.
How can you possibly feel that I felt 'slighted' by your giving me back my poems after I asked for them? I thanked you remember? And later when you convinced me the book was coming out, I gave it a plug here at TLO (yes, my feelings were so hurt I had ro give your book a plug a month ago on TLO). Now that does anger me; not that you misled me--I could care less- but that I inadvertenly then misled others.
I had no "stake" in your project to exagerate; and your refusal to respond to Cnev was pure arrogance as far as I'm concerned. I didn't post on this thread until you refused to come clean about what happened to this Chimera.

And if you really think people are just abstractions good luck on trying to sell your book to 'abstractions'. All that was required was an explanation but you couldn't resist a personal attack. Foolish.

And now I'm DONE.

Done.
