Recent acquisitions.

Your fall should be like the fall of mountains. But I was before mountains. I was in the beginning, and shall be forever. The first and the last. The world come full circle. I am not the wheel. I am the hand that turns the wheel. I am Time, the Destroyer. I was the wind and the stars before this. Before planets. Before heaven and hell. And when all is done, I will be wind again, to blow this world as dust back into endless space. To me the coming and going of Man is as nothing.

I rarely buy a new edition for a book solely for the cover art. But I did cave for this one:

Re: Packages from the Postman
This is my favorite Blood Meridian cover. It is the first edition and the painting is The Phantom Cart by Salvador Dalí.

Re: Packages from the Postman
When I first read that novel, I really wanted a first edition. Back then you could get a nice copy on eBay for about $450. I just checked, now they start at $4000. I did have a nice first edition of the book that inspired McCarthy's novel: My Confession by Samuel E. Chamberlain. I believe it cost me about $50. You can still grab a copy for about $250.

Re: Packages from the Postman
I recently ditched my smartphone and all social media, so no way of showing the actual stack without hooking up my DSLR and that's not something I can be bothered with right now. Here's a haul of mostly art books I received today.

Re: Packages from the Postman
I know that feeling and although I would love a 1st of Blood Meridian, I can't (yet) justify the cost. That said, there are other books that have motivated me that I was able to jump on a 1st edition before prices went skyward: Wise Blood, The Glass Bead Game, and The Rings of Saturn jump to mind.

Re: Packages from the Postman
A distinctly hypnagogic postal drop today. Ithell Colquhoun has been a recent fascination, and lament a proper collection of her artistic works isn't yet available.

I had the Blake and Hillman book at one time. Ithell Colquhoun is new to me.

Re: Packages from the Postman
I've received these items recently:
A small press publication from the early/mid 90s. Four stories by Ron Weighell. Published by Rosemary Pardoe. It has been on my AbeBooks want list for so long that I forgot about it. Years. A nice copy showed up for $25. Sold! I've heard good things about this collection. Plus, I got my copies of Vastarien and A Forest With Its Mouth Wide Open by Adam Cantwell. A good month or so.
