Re: Junji Ito thread

I tried to explain Junji Ito to someone recently and simply gave up. He is literally inexplicable; you have to experience him. Very similar to Ligotti in that way. A simple plot explanation never does the work justice.

Re: Junji Ito thread

In the introduction to Noctuary Ligotti makes a distinction between horror and the weird as horror having an explanation while the weird is an enigma that can't be dispelled. Going by that definition, I find Ito straddles on the line between both and personally I'd say his weird stories are the best while his horror stories are the ones that tend to falter. Though occasionally he knocks out something like the "amigara fault" story, which somehow is both and still works.

Re: Junji Ito thread

Apparently there was a signing in May 2019 at Toronto. Art book is good but I wish they would translate and release "Lovesick Dead" already

"Tell me how you want to die, and I'll tell you who you are. In other words, how do you fill out an empty life? With women, books, or worldly ambitions? No matter what you do, the starting point is boredom, and the end self-destruction. The emblem of our fate: the sky teeming with worms. Baudelaire taught me that life is the ecstasy of worms in the sun, and happiness the dance of worms."

Re: Junji Ito thread

Hellstar Remina is probably the one I want most, the bonus story "Army Of One" is supposed to be particularly good.

I remember some of the creepy and occult images but I can't remember the plot for the life of me.

Re: Junji Ito thread

There will be a new Uzumaki anime directed by Hiroshi Nagahama (Mushishi and Flowers of Evil). Only 4 episodes. Hm...
