The Most Formidable Outer God
Excluding the Supremes (Azathoth, Nyalathotep, Yog-Sothoth), who's the Big, Nasty Critter of the Year ?
Stats: -Shub-Niggurath: Nebulous, tentacled, hoofed horror. Wife of Hastur. Progenitor of Ithaqua, Zhar, Lloigor, and an unnamed triplet. Resides on Yaddith. With Dholes at her sway, many a planet could be doomed. Probably intelligent, like her mate. Nature/fertility deity. -Ubbo-Sathla: Vast, immobile, amoeba-like black mass. Invalid twin of Azathoth. Source of all Earthly life. Served by its unevolved Spawn but worshipped by Nioth-Korghai. Utterly mindless. Deep beneath the surface of the Earth. Nuclear bombs have little effect . Touch can reduce human to deranged shapeless mass or pile of grey dust. -Yidhra: Shapeshifter. In many ways twin to Nyarlathotep. Spawn of Mlandoth. Fears death; Therefore, probably hostile to Zushakon, Thoth, and Cynothoglys. Has deep connections to the Earth itself. Though a fertility/nature/earth deity, unconnected to Shub-Niggurath. -Abhoth: Vast, eyeless grey pool covered in strange members and gaping mouths. Eats only own fissal spawn. Cynical and sardonic; Enjoys sick irony. Spawn of Ubbo-Sathla. Father/mother of Atlach-Nacha. Served by GOO Yeb and the cult of the Unclean Ones. May eventually move from Y'quaa (netherworld under Greenland), but to lazy and uninterested. -Ghroth: Small planet with big red eye. Awakens GOOs dormant on planets via telepathic "Musick of the Spheres". Could therefore turn Earth into Bedlam and, due to certain forces (see C'thalpa), a cinder. Can be influenced by Mi-Go, making kissing up to the Fungi a good thing. However, otherwise rather weak. A nuclear missile could send it off course for a couple hundred years, in theory... -Yomagn'tho: The Feaster from the Starres. A nasty creature, easily summoned by a Cthugha summoning gone awry. A petalled ring of diabolical fire. Sends out telepathic signals of a maddening variety. Feeds on foolish enchanters and dabblers in the occult. One of the many reasons to appreciate the Elder Sign, although a faulty spell on it might have no effect. Has great, although easily contained, power, like Bugg-Shash, although a single mistake may.... -Tulzscha: A dancer in the court of Azathoth. Usually manifests as a vast pillar of sickly green flame. Has a small, obscure cult, mostly in Kingsport. Might one day engulf the sun. Indifferent, but cult may use you as sacrifice. -Magnum Innomindum: The Nameless Mist. Either progenitor or mate of Yog-Sothoth. Trancends time and space. If mate, probably a really nasty aether/air elemental. Feared by sorcerors. Damned freaky. -Hydra: The Magna Mater. Truly nasty moon/star/fertility/mother goddess. Has one thousand faces. Absorbs bodies, minds, and souls of those who cross it, fusing their thoughts/emotions/faces (!) with its. No known cult, for good reason. More than a match for Shub-Niggurath. My vote. -C'thalpa: Volcanic daemon-goddess. Trapped beneath the Earth's crust. Son, Shterot, a GOO, is obsessed with freeing her. Could set off every volcano on Earth at once if at full power. -The Other Gods: Minor brethren of Azathoth. Mindless. "Parents" of Great Ones; Tick them off, these guys get you good. -The Ancient Ones: Near-omniscient, rather indifferent, almighty disciples of 'Umr At-Tawil. Live beyond the Gates of the Silver Key. -Tru'Nembra: Azathoth's lead flautist and god of S'glhuo. Pure sapient sound. Idea based in "The House of Sounds" and "The Music of Erich Zann". -Magnum Tenebrosum: Tsalal-esque spawn of Azathoth. Possible progenitor of Shub-Niggurath. -Daoloth: Lord of perception and illusion. Appears as an unimaginably complex landscape. Truely an awe-inspiring deity. Can absorb unwary summoners. Eep.... | |||||||||||
