Re: The Nameless Dark - A Collection

Voted.

It was a very good collection.

"The Screamer" was excellent.

Good luck!

"I myself have never seen the Red Tower - no one ever has, and possibly no one ever will. And yet wherever I go people are talking about it. In one way or another they are talking about the nightmarish novelty items or about the mysterious and revolting hyper-organisms, as well as babbling endlessly about the subterranean system of tunnels and the secluded graveyard whose headstones display no names and no dates designating either birth or death"

As soon as I organize my vast fortune I'll be picking up a copy.

Your collection is incredible. I'm just finishing "Free Fireworks".
I can't wait to see what you come up with next.

Word Horde interview, in which I sort of lose my #### about the snobbery leveled at genre fiction.

Re: The Nameless Dark - A Collection

I've been reading The Nameless Dark, and although I haven't yet finished I feel compelled to give my impressions. To keep things on the up and up, I was provided with an electronic copy by T. E. Grau and asked to post my thoughts on his collection.

First of all, congratulations Mr. Grau, your collection is outstanding. This is some of the most enjoyable reading that I've come upon in a long while. There's a nice variety here, but I do want to name my favorites, so far. TUBBY'S BIG SWIM, a boy and his avenging angel. Enough said. EXPAT is a nifty little ghost story about belonging and it hints at darker things coming. THE TRUFFLE PIG is an even more sinister take on Jack the Ripper. I've just finished WHITE FEATHER, which is my favorite, so far. A wonderful Lovecraftian Sea tale about bravery, fear, Privateers, and a man doing what a man gotta do. Nice.

The writing displays a keen insight to the human condition. At times I felt as if reading the stories were like talking to a friend, meaning that the characters displayed an easy to understand range of humanity, and inhumanity. A feeling of sympatico made the reading that much more enjoyable.

I'll post further thoughts when I'm finished.

Mr. Grau, I look forward to reading your stories for a long time to come.

Re: The Nameless Dark - A Collection

Goodness, njhorror. Thank you for these incredibly kind words.

I'm so happy that you enjoyed the read, and feel a closeness to the characters. I have yet to hear that about my work, and as the father of these individuals (and creatures), I'm so proud that they have conducted themselves properly and in such a way that you feel a kinship. That means the world to me.

Thanks for giving the collection a read, and for posting up your thoughts. I'm grateful for it.

Re: The Nameless Dark - A Collection

Ok, I finished. An excellent collection INDEED.

Twinkle Twinkle breaks your heart.

The Mission fills one with dread and horror.

I'm sick as a dog right now, but reading the last few stories perked me up quite a bit.

I'll still be purchasing the softcover when my ship comes in . . . again, because it was that good.

Onwards and upwards, Mr. Grau.

I'll be waiting.

Re: The Nameless Dark - A Collection

I'm so happy you enjoyed the rest of the book, njhorror.

Thanks again for checking out my collection. It means a lot.

Onward it shall be (just delivered my 32,000+ novella to the publisher yesterday). As for upward... we'll see.
