AKLO: A Volume of the Fantastic offered for trade
I have an extra copy of the rare, and long out-of-print AKLO: A Volume of the Fantastic, edited by Mark Valentine, Roger Dobson and R.B. Russell (Tartarus Press, 1998) that I don't want to sell, but I'd be happy to offer it for a trade (for something even only remotely Ligottian...) to a member of this forum, as it contains two rare pieces, amongst other things :
"Paradoxes from Hell" (a grouping of five short pieces: "The Decayed Mystic"; "The Stricken Philosopher"; "The Deranged Poet"; "The Complete Madman"; and "Postscript") by Thomas Ligotti and "Interview with Thomas Ligotti" by David Tibet Send me a personnal message with anything you'd like to trade for it, and I'll get back to you. Please note that this copy is a bit peculiar, because, even though it looks perfectly normal, some pages are missing (it seems that a whole signature booklet, i.e. 16 pages, was not bound with the rest. I noticed it when I first read it from cover to cover, because as I said, everything seems perfectly all right from the outside...) It affects only one story: "Into The Mysteries (an excerpt)" by Ron Weighell, I can provide a photocopy of the missing pages though. Otherwise, it is a wonderfully produced book (as always with Tartarus Press...), in near fine condition with a slightly worn dustjacket. Here is it's description from Tartarus: AKLO, edited by Mark Valentine, Roger Dobson, and R.B. Russell, 1998, pp.256, £14.99. Sewn hardback, printed and bound by Antony Rowe. 400 copies printed. Illustrations from various sources. ISBN 1872621325. Aklo was a late twentieth-century small-press literary magazine that published the likes of Cabell, Stenbock, Gawsworth, Stanford, and others. This collection was its last flourish , for the first time in hardcover. Point: Published in association with Caermaen Books. Review: “ This finely-produced tome is presented as the final issue of a journal of the fantastic and decadent. I missed the previous numbers, and on this evidence, I'm sorry I came in late. It's a luxurious selection of lightly poisoned confections. The only thing that isn't decadent about it is the price.” - Douglas M. Campbell, All Hallows And its content: PUREFOY AND ARTHUR by Hilary Machen, with an introduction by Roger Dobson EDMUND JOHN by Timothy d'Arch Smith POETRY by Edmund John INTO THE MYSTERIES by Ron Weighell CONCERNING CABELL by Peter Relton CONCERNING CORINNA by James Branch Cabell A MODERN ST. VENANTIUS by Count Stenbock LESSINGHAM by Andy Sawyer WILLIAM WATSON PEPLOE by Colin Scott-Sutherland THE DOWSON LEGEND by John Gawsworth VINCENT McNABB OP AND MICHAEL FIELD by Philip Healy INTERVIEW WITH THOMAS LIGOTTI by David Tibet PARADOXES FROM HELL by Thomas Ligotti ALASTAIR by R.B. Russel A NOTE ABOUT JOHN GALE by Mark Valentine TWO STORIES by John Gale A GREAT LIFE SPOILT: WILDE, DOUGLAS AND MACHEN by Mark Samuels THE TANTALIZING ELSEWHERES OF HENRI ALLAIN-FOURNIER by Adrian Eckersley THE RETURN OF ENOCH SOAMES by Derek Stanford | |||||||||||
