Or perhaps Pizzolatto and the producers felt forced to revise and delete all the hardboiled dark Ligotti sentenses from the second season to avoid further charges of plagianism?

I watched the first episode of Season II of TD, and aside from being all over the map, seemingly convoluted, and over-crowded, I noticed that NP basically crow-barred a touch of "existential darkness" about 1/2 way through the episode. So, we are introduced to this "mysterious" character, who has a very Jim Jones-esque vibe, preaching to a bunch of people at some "compound", and he makes reference to a "meaningless universe". So of course, trying to throw a bone to those looking for anything remotely nihilistic, NP tosses that in the mix. Anyone else catch that? It was about as forced as one could imagine it being, and again, seemed as unnatural and out of context as can be. At least he didn't refer to the universe as "malignantly" this or that...yet.
