I would like to change the above Rhys Hughes story in my original list for another Rhys Hughes story: A RAPE OF KNOTS - that I have just read in his 'Journeys Beyond Advice' collection and reviewed here.

Joel Lane formally acknowledged its influence upon his novella "The Witnesses Are Gone" as his printed footnote within the book of the novella itself.

- Since I posted my list of essential weird british fiction, I realized that two stories I read since compiling the list years earlier, Quentin S. Crisp's 'Ynys-y-Plag' and Stephen Laws' 'The Crawl' are both very deserving of a place therein.

Yes, this is a most excellent thread.


Until I assemble a list, which may be never, due to my bad memory of titles and authors, I would have to include THE INTERLOPERS by Saki (H.H. Munro) This story so affected me as a child that I never could forget it. A spine-tingling ending.
