Re: Absences and Inhumanity: Six Works of Abstract Horror
Orwell was an artist and honest observer. It wasn't the first time an artist was forced to admit to things he would rather not.
Liberals believe more laws on human nature will bring Utopia.

Re: Absences and Inhumanity: Six Works of Abstract Horror
What I mean is simply that liberal philosophy doesn't accept man's nature is not rational. The communists put it in a vice of laws to achieve desired obedience to the State. Fascism is the end...

Re: Absences and Inhumanity: Six Works of Abstract Horror
Fascism always comes from the Left. Hitler, Stalin, Mao, all used fascist techniques of control. So did Pol Pot. Liberals and communists believe in the perfectibility of man. When that doesn't...

A Bad Guy Passes
Charlie is dead.
It took too long and he got off easy. Such is life.

Re: Absences and Inhumanity: Six Works of Abstract Horror
Perhaps not, James lol. If a well known Liberal had written Red Hook it might well have been hailed as a brilliant portrait of right wing paranoia. Don't forget Lovecraft wrote "Eryx" which reads...

Re: Absences and Inhumanity: Six Works of Abstract Horror
Unless it's a piece of crude political propaganda, it's a mistake to judge art by politics.
Would "The Colour out of Space" have been a different story if Lovecraft were a liberal? I doubt it. ...

Re: Robert E. Howard story question
The title was Howard's. He heard of the old legend from a black maid or cook at the Howard home (I forget which) and it fascinated him.
I always loved the title.

Ringstones, my favorite work by Sarban, always reminded me of Henry James. But, yes. if you dig deep enough the Machen influence is there. A good choice.
